Nimo is a mother of five children (two girls and three boys.) and a bonafide resident of Bulo Ajuran camp in Belet Xawo District. Traditionally, the burden of collecting water falls to girls and women in Belet Hawa. The collection of water takes a lot of time and walking long distances to and from unsafe water sources, which rob the girls and women of the opportunity to attain education or paid work, making supporting their family even harder. For Nimo, the arrival of clean water doesn’t just mean a chance to carve out a different future for herself and her children but a renewed lifeline too.
Nimo remembers the exact day clean water arrived at Bulo Ajuran village because she would be freed from the burden of collecting water and would have more time to spend with her children. Her daughter Sumaya, who is class four now has time to study so that she can achieve her goal of becoming a Nurse.
‘I can now happily say that my daughter will become a nurse and since our family is engaged in a small scale business, we are now able to support Sumaya with all education needs. Thanks to ASEP for making my daughter fulfill her dream of going to school”
